Junior Achievement USA (JA) is the largest organization dedicated to educating students in grades K through 12 about entrepreneurship, work readiness and financial literacy. JA programs are taught by volunteers from the business community who partner with teachers in the classroom. Founded in 1919, JA USA has reached more 115 million students throughout the United States. Its purpose is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy.
Junior Achievement of Western Connecticut was founded in 1946, and since that time has reached nearly 280,000 students in the communities it serves. It is governed by a Board of Directors with the support of area community boards and raises all of its own dollars through foundation grants, corporate sponsorships, individual gifts and special events.
During 2010-2011, 22,729 students participated in the myriad in-school and after-school programs offered by Junior Achievement of Western Connecticut. Those programs operated in 81 individual schools, and 983 classes through the generosity of nearly 1,151 volunteers from throughout the region. Listed below are the areas that received JA programs during the 2010-2011 school year.
